The magician exhibits a dime, penny and two nickels to his audience. All four coins are placed in the magician’s closed fist. Then, one nickel is removed from the fist and placed in the magician’s pocket. "If there were 21 cents in my fist, and I removed five," the magician comments, "then how much money is left?" he asks.

After some quick calculations, spectators will invariably state "16 cents!" But the magician proves them incorrect, opening his hand to show that the other three coins have vanished without a trace!
